Selling makes me cringe too—here’s what I do instead

Today’s email is hitting your inbox a tad later than usual. That’s because I’m exhausted—plum-pooped, if you will.

Yesterday, I spent 4.5 hours at the Calgary Economic Development Report to the Community. It was an afternoon with industry leaders talking about how to boost and drive economic growth in the city. There were keynote speakers, a panel, and networking.

Ohhh, so much networking. So. Many. People.

I’m wiped.

For the most part, I loved it. It was insightful and even—dare I say it—fun.

But all the people aside, what I wasn’t prepared for was the selling. Nearly everyone who approached me tried to pitch something. And I kept wondering—does this actually work for them?

Because for me? It didn’t feel great.

That said, I did have a few wonderful conversations—ones where there was real connection. We talked about our businesses with passion and purpose. Those moments felt like I was making a difference.

And it took me back to the early days of building my online business.

I used to feel like I had to choose between being authentic and being effective. The sales advice I kept running into online? Loud. Aggressive. Pushy.

It didn’t feel like me—at all. Much like many of the conversations I had yesterday.

But I knew I had something valuable to offer. So I started experimenting with what I learned is called subtle selling.

I stopped trying to convert people and focused on how I could support them.

I stopped pitching and started inviting.

And—surprise—it worked.

Not in a flashy, six-figures-in-six-days kind of way. But in a sustainable, slow-burn,

soul-aligned way that actually feels good.

So if you’ve ever felt awkward or resistant to making offers in your business… this one’s for you.

You ever catch yourself side-eyeing your entire business setup—even though it’s technically working? Yeah, I’ve been there. Spring hits, energy shifts, and suddenly the structure you built starts to feel a little too tight. You wonder if it’s time for a new offer, a new direction… or just a long nap. But before you start pulling everything apart, here’s the question most introverted...

Soft sunlight casting a diagonal shadow on a beige wall—minimalist and calming visual for introverted entrepreneur mood or quiet motivation theme.

The past few months have been… a lot. Getting back into a rhythm hasn’t been easy, but I’ve made it a point to spend quiet time with myself—no pressure, just presence. During one of those moments, I picked up The Pivot Year by Brianna Wiest (still one of my all-time favourites). I wasn’t looking for anything specific—I just opened it—and landed on Day 231. Where she writes: “Sometimes, when it seems like you are falling behind with the outside world, you are actually coming into alignment...

Woven basket of spring flowers on a white chair, symbolizing fresh starts, Spring Fever in Business, and seasonal inspiration for introverts.

This weekend I officially cracked. I had to open every window in the house, light my nerdiest floral-scented candle, and pretend I wasn’t still wearing fuzzy socks. Even though it was snowing, spring fever hit hard — and honestly, I don’t hate it. It got me thinking: doesn’t spring kind of feel like nature’s version of a reset button? Everything’s waking up, stretching out, and getting ready to grow. Kinda like us and our businesses, right? Are you feeling it too? I’d love to hear — are you...
